Anita, specialist in post-mastectomy bras
Emma chose the German corsetry brand Anita in 2015 during the early days of the post-mastectomy department in the store. A pioneer in the field, Anita offers a wide range of styles, from the simplest to the most ornate, with designs that help conceal any scars. They provide various bra styles as well as complete and partial breast prostheses, along with a variety of swimsuits to meet all needs.
Each Anita bra for prostheses is made from start to finish by the brand to ensure a perfect fit. The prostheses are crafted from silicone and polyurethane, materials that are well-tolerated by the skin. The flexibility, weight, and movement of these materials provide a sensation and appearance very similar to that of natural breasts. They come in different shapes depending on the type of surgery (initial compensation, partial, and total) and in various sizes according to the desired weight. The Equitex prosthesis, a lightweight partial silicone prosthesis with tapered edges and multifunctional compensatory pads, is one of the favorites.

Each bra features integrated pockets on either side specifically designed to hold an Anita Care prosthesis. Made from soft cotton (Terry effect), micromodal, or microfiber, these pockets provide added comfort for irritated skin while preventing chafing.
The design also includes a high armhole to help conceal any scars, along with wide bands under the bust to optimize support and comfort. The straps are tailored to the size of the prostheses to better distribute weight across the shoulders.

"When I started researching and developing our expertise in post-mastectomy lingerie, I came across collections that were beige, white, really basic and unappealing. The offerings were far from sexy, to be honest. Anita really stood out: lace, refined details, prints, flattering cuts. It resonated with me, and I thought it would meet a significant need for a vulnerable clientele looking to regain their lost femininity," Emma recalls.
Not just a department, but a true expertise
Few lingerie boutiques offer products for post-mastectomy needs. Those that do often have a limited selection and may not provide training for fitting prostheses and bras designed for them. Alternatively, these products might be available in medical stores that lack the fitting expertise or the sense of femininity that a high-end lingerie shop can provide.
At Lingerie Emma, all our fitters must complete basic corsetry training. Those who wish to specialize in post-mastectomy fitting undergo additional training from the Anita team and our beloved Louise, a senior fitter and on-site expert. Nathalie and Linda are also well-trained to meet the needs of this unique clientele.
Once trained, our expert post-mastectomy fitters provide more than just a service: they offer warm, sensitive, and respectful support that acknowledges the fragility of each client. We see an average of ten clients per week in this department. Clients visiting for the first time may be undergoing chemotherapy or have recently had a mastectomy. They are in a state of great vulnerability that requires exceptional care. That’s exactly what Lingerie Emma offers—without compromise.
The expertise goes beyond achieving the perfect fit: we provide a comprehensive care experience. Our fitters guide clients through the process. Many women are unaware that the Quebec government offers the External Breast Prosthesis Program, which is aimed at individuals who have undergone breast surgery (mastectomy) or who have complete breast absence (aplastic). This program provides reimbursement for the purchase or replacement of external breast prostheses.
