Emma chose the German corsetry brand Anita in 2015, during the infancy of this post-mastectomy department within the boutique. A pioneer in the field, Anita offers numerous models, from the simplest to the most ornate, whose cut helps conceal any scars. It also offers bras with varied cuts, full and partial breast prostheses, and a variety of swimsuits. Enough to meet all needs.
Indeed, each Anita prosthesis bra is manufactured from A to Z by the brand to achieve a perfect fit. First, the prostheses are made of silicone and polyurethane, raw materials well tolerated by the skin. The flexibility, weight, and movement of these materials provide a sensation and appearance very similar to that of a natural breast. They are available in different formats depending on the type of surgery (first compensation, partial and total) and in various sizes according to the desired weight. The Equitex prosthesis, a partial and light silicone prosthesis with tapered edges and multifunctional compensation pads, is one of the favorites.

Next, the integrated pockets on each side of the bra are specially constructed to insert an Anita Care prosthesis. Made of soft cotton (Terry effect), micromodal, or microfiber, they offer a dose of softness to irritated skin, in addition to preventing friction.
Finally, the design includes a high armhole, which allows for concealing scars if necessary, and wide bands under the bust to optimize support and comfort. The straps are also adapted to the size of the prostheses to better distribute the weight on the shoulders.

"When I started my research and approaches to develop our expertise in post-mastectomy lingerie, I came across beige, white, very basic, and unappealing collections. The offer was far from sexy, let's face it. Anita really stood out from the crowd: lace, refined details, prints, flattering cuts. It really spoke to me, and I told myself that it would meet a great need for a vulnerable clientele looking to regain lost femininity," says Emma.
Not just a department, real expertise
Few lingerie boutiques offer products for post-mastectomy. Those that do have a small selection and do not necessarily have training in fitting prostheses and bras adapted for prostheses. Otherwise, these products are offered in medical stores that do not offer the fitting expertise or the feeling of femininity that a high-end lingerie boutique can provide.
At Lingerie Emma, all our corsetieres must complete their basic corsetry course. Then, those who wish to develop the post-mastectomy specialty must undergo additional training provided by the Anita team and also by Louise, our dear Louise, who is a senior corsetiere and our on-site expert in the field. We receive an average of about ten clients per week in the department. Clients who are on their first visit may be undergoing chemotherapy, or they may have just undergone a mastectomy in recent weeks. And the expertise goes further than the perfect fit: we offer a complete care experience. Indeed, our corsetieres guide clients through the process. Many women are unaware that the Quebec government offers the External Breast Prosthesis Program for people who have undergone breast removal surgery (mastectomy) or who have a total absence of breast formation (aplasia). It offers reimbursement for the purchase or replacement of external breast prostheses.
