It's a question we all ask ourselves at some point when looking into our drawers: how many bras should I have? Enough so I never run out of options? Just enough for a good rotation? Or somewhere in between?
We'll simply explain how to find your own magic number, without pressure or overload.
The basic rule: 3 (minimum)
At Lingerie Emma, we like the famous rule of 3 to determine how many bras to own:
- One you wear
- One you wash
- One that's resting
Three is therefore the minimum for good rotation. But depending on your lifestyle, rhythm, and needs, the ideal number of everyday bras is between 5 and 7.
- For everyday life: count on 3 to 5 comfortable models, invisible under clothes, with a flattering cut.
- For sports: at least 2 sports bras to alternate and maintain good support.
- For special occasions: 1 or 2 more refined or sculpting models, depending on your preferences.
- For summer or specific clothing: 1 bandeau, 1 backless bra, or 1 adhesive bra can be valuable allies.
All without having to do laundry every other day.
What if you like variety?
Some women enjoy collecting beautiful pieces, matching them to their moods, or choosing them based on their necklines. In this case, there are no rules: follow your pleasure! But even here, aiming for at least 5 to 7 active models (those you actually wear) is recommended to preserve their shape and elasticity.
How to care for your bras so they last?
To extend the life of your precious pieces:
- Alternate at least 2 models per week — don't wear the same one two days in a row.
- Hand wash or use a lingerie bag at a maximum of 30°C, with a laundry bag and a gentle soap
- Lay flat to dry (never use a dryer!)
A good bra can last for years… if you take care of it. This video gives you good tips on how to extend the lifespan of your bras.
Listen to your body (and your drawer)
If you feel like you're always wearing the same two models, or your drawer is overflowing with forgotten pieces, it might be time to declutter. And why not review your essentials, with models that are well-fitted to your current size and daily life?
At Lingerie Emma, we believe that a good lingerie drawer starts with quality and comfort. Come discover in store or online models that adapt to your life — not the other way around.
